As a cancer survivor and proud Cuban American, I was tired of seeing the impacts of misinformation affecting our most vulnerable. Knowing that people like my grandparents were being targeted and manipulated to think in a certain way made me upset. I decided to do something about it and chose to evolve my frustration into meaningful action. That is when I met the amazing group of people at Cubanos Palante and we have been working together ever since to ensure that people know there are two sides to every story and there are meaningful, achievable, solutions to our societal problems.

"ALL of the voices of our communities must be heard and taken into account."
I specify ALL, because values such as inclusion, diversity, fairness, respect, and the fact that we celebrate our differences are the main factors why I decided to join CPL. As an Afro-Cuban American, It is important to me that the voices of Cubans who look like me are taken into account. In Cubanos Pa’Lante I found a group of phenomenal individuals working passionately for the liberation of our people and the advancement and development of our community.

Cubanos palante was born out of a need to give Cuban progressives a space to feel seen. I am a proud progressive, queer, Christian, and first-generation Cuban-American. To me, Cubanos Pa'Lante represents a space that embraces the fullness of identity within our Cubanidad. My hope is that through our work with Cubanos Pa'Lante, we can continue to build a community that explores the nuances of identity and embraces the richness of our diversity.

Making the decision to work with Cubanos Pa’lante was a no brainer. If the last election cycle taught us anything, it taught us that misinformation and propaganda not only go unchecked, they target the most vulnerable of American societies; including Cuban-Americans. I am here to fight back, to educate, promote diversity, inclusion and help inspire policy that is fair, solid, equitable and represents freedom FOR ALL. Collectively, I expect that we will disrupt the dated norms that represent obstacles on forward progress.

I joined Cubanos Pa’lante because I wanted Cubans like me to be louder. I wanted queer cubans and liberal cubans and abolitionist cubans to have a space to come together, build community and imagine a new world together! We push each other a lot here and that’s my favorite, we are always asking “What is best for our people?”

I was born in Morón, Cuba and immigrated to Miami with my family in 2001. After years of working as a community organizer in Florida, I became increasingly frustrated with the way politicians weaponize the trauma of my community for votes, and then proceed to vote against our community's interests post-election. For me, Cubanos Pa'Lante is more than community; it's a movement to redefine our people's history, culture, and politics. I joined Cubanos Pa'Lante because I want to be a part of changing the narrative on who we are, and impacting the future of who we will become!

I am an Afro-Cuban historian and seasoned community organizing strategist. I grew up in El Cerro, Havana. A lot of my current activism is centered on building and occupying online spaces so working people y la gente del barrio can dream the futures we want. I am also the founder of Historia Negra de Cuba, a digital archive centering and honoring Black Cuban stories.
